Condition BEFORE Shampooing?

I recently had the opportunity to try the new TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume collection, courtesy of Influenster.

What’s different about this set is that it encourages you to “Reverse Your Routine”, and apply conditioner BEFORE shampooing. The thought is that the conditioner will soften your hair to the core, and the shampoo will wash away all of the unnecessary build-up in your hair (including any build-up conditioner can leave behind).

I’m not gonna lie, you guys. I was SUPER skeptical, but I bravely plowed through those fears to try it. I’M A WARRIOR, YOU GUYS. Check out my video to see the process and my immediate afterthoughts…and then scroll down to see my thoughts a few days later.

Okay, so here are my final thoughts on the product. I used this on a Friday. It’s now Monday as I’m writing this. Does my hair feel dirty? Not at all. I do feel like the shampoo removed a good amount of impurities from my hair.

That being said, I don’t think I’ll personally be using this product again, and here’s why:

  • I (obvi) have colored hair. This product, while made for volume, is NOT gentle. The amount of red hair dye I saw wash down my drain rivaled the damn elevator scene from The Shining.

Red hair dye is expensive AF, you guys, and I’m not keen on seeing it just washed down the drain ThankYouVeryMuch.
  • I REALLY like it when my hair feels silky and soft. Using the shampoo after the conditioner took away that silky feeling. Now I will say that shampooing after gave my hair more texture, so that was a plus, but I’ll take softness over that.
  • The smell, while not bad at ALL, is STRONG. I mean like hella strong. Like you just walked into a Bath and Body Works that was inside a LUSH store with a side of a field of Bed Bath and Beyond candles. Too much for my taste.

Now, if you have baby-fine hair, I would 100% suggest trying this product, or at least the method of shampooing after conditioning. I fully believe it would create texture and body where you want it most.

Have you guys tried this stuff? What’s your opinion on it?
